EORI Code Validation Service

The EORI code is used to identify economic operators and other persons when dealing with customs, i.e. when carrying out customs formalities (import, export, transit customs procedures, applications for authorisations under customs rules, etc.). Please note that an EORI code issued in one Member State is valid in other Member States and therefore no additional registration and EORI code is required.

Who Needs an EORI Number?

An Economic Operators Registration and Identification (EORI) number is required for any business or individual engaged in activities involving countries outside the European Union (EU). The requirement for an EORI number applies to:

Activities Requiring an EORI Number:

  1. Importing Goods into the EU: Any goods brought into the EU from a non-EU country.
  2. Exporting Goods from the EU: Any goods sent out from the EU to a non-EU country.
  3. Moving Goods in Transit Through the EU: Even if goods are merely passing through the EU and not entering or leaving, an EORI number is still necessary.

Entities Requiring an EORI Number:

  1. Businesses of All Sizes: This includes small, medium, and large enterprises across all industries, such as:
    • Manufacturers
    • Retailers
    • Freight companies
  2. Individuals: Persons importing or exporting goods for personal reasons.
  3. Other Entities Involved in Trade:
    • Freelancers
    • Customs agents
    • Other organizations or entities involved in trade activities

If you are involved in the importation, exportation, or transit of goods with non-EU countries, you must obtain an EORI number regardless of the size or type of your business, or even if you are acting in a personal capacity. This requirement ensures that all economic operators are identifiable in all interactions with customs authorities across the EU.
